Dental Implants in London

Dental implants are the only permanent solution for missing teeth. With dental implants, you can eat, speak and smile with confidence again. No more ill-fitting dentures or gaps in your smile.

The consequences of missing teeth

The main reasons people want to replace missing teeth are often cosmetic and to enable them to bite and chew food easily again without pain or embarrassment. However, there are other issues that can arise from not replacing missing teeth:

When teeth are missing it can lead to jaw bone loss at the site of the gap

The gum loses natural protection from debris

Higher risk of gum disease developing

The remaining teeth can become misaligned, drift into the gap or loosen

Missing teeth may alter facial features

Eating only soft food, or less food, due to tooth loss or pain will take a toll on general health leading to a poorer quality of life

SINGLE AND MULTIPLE MISSING TEETH

When you have lost a tooth it not only causes emotional distress, but also upsets the equilibrium in your mouth. If you lose a front tooth it is likely to have a massive effect on your self-confidence. If you lose a large tooth at the back of your mouth, you may compensate by eating food on the other side of your mouth. Dental implants can provide comfort, stability and enable you to regain your self-confidence.

IMPLANTS TO SUPPORT A BRIDGE OR DENTURE

Losing several teeth can have a big impact on your quality of life, often affecting speech, the ability to eat, and the confidence to smile. Dentures or bridges supported by dental implants can be an effective solution in many ways. They halt the process of bone loss and support the other healthy teeth in the mouth. Many patients find their dentures fit and function better, boosting their self-confidence and allowing them to enjoy all the foods they love once more.

TEETH IN A DAY – ALL-ON-4®

All-On-4 treatment, also known as ‘Teeth in a Day’, is an incredible option that means we can give someone who enters our practice in the morning with loose or missing teeth a complete set of beautiful, new fixed teeth by the time they leave us that afternoon. Whilst healing, bespoke, laboratory-made teeth are created and when you return a few months later the temporary teeth are replaced with new, beautiful, permanent teeth.

What are dental implants?

The dental implant procedure allows us to conceal gaps in your smile in the most natural-looking way possible. The finished result will look and feel like a real tooth, so you can smile, chew and speak with confidence. A dental implant is considered to be a permanent solution for missing teeth. Implants can replace single teeth or multiple teeth. They can also be used to support an entire arch restoration. Once placed, the implant can last a lifetime with the right care. Those with dental implants enjoy a more youthful appearance and the implant may help to maintain the bone structure by preventing bone loss.

Who is right for dental implants?

The ideal candidate for dental implants would be someone with one or more missing teeth. This could be the result of trauma or decay. You should have overall good oral health and have no signs of gum disease. You will also need to be a non-smoker, as smoking increases the risk of complications by slowing down the healing process. You would also be unsuitable for treatment if you have had radiotherapy in your jaw, or if you have uncontrolled diabetes. We will discuss all of these limitations with you during your dental implant consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a query regarding your dental treatment? Find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

What are the different types of implants available?

There are different types of implants available, depending on the problem you would like to address. Single dental implants can support one or multiple teeth to close gaps in your smile and prevent surrounding teeth from shifting. All On 4 dental implants use 4-6 implants to support an entire restoration. And finally, same day dental implants use longer implants secured to the cheek bone to allow the restoration to be completed in one day.

How long does the dental implant procedure take?

Same day dental implants can be completed in just one visit, but other dental implants will take longer. Your treatment time will all depend on how long it takes for the implant to heal. Implants typically take between 6-12 weeks to heal. The actual procedure only around 3 hours to complete.

How long is recovery?

Many patients report that their dental implant procedure is similar to an extraction in terms of recovery times. You might have some swelling and tenderness for a few days after the treatment, but this should quickly subside.

How long will implants last?

The dental implant part should last a lifetime with the correct care, but the crown, bridge or denture may need to be replaced or repaired over time. It should last around 10 years or more, with the right care.
